“When He was dying on the cross, Jesus said: I thirst. Jesus is thirsting for our love, and this is the thirst of everyone, poor and rich alike. We all thirst for the love of others, that they go out of their way to avoid harming us and do good to us. This is the meaning of true love, to give until it hurts.” (Mother Theresa)

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PROGRAM
HOST FAMILIES WANTED. The Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools operates an international program in several schools throughout our system. This program brings the world to our students. It helps them to see differing world views and promotes understanding, peace, and harmony. Our students are able to form world-wide friendships and networking opportunities in the future. Students come from various countries. Their placement is primarily high school with some students in upper elementary. The students are here to study for one or more semesters. A fundamental cornerstone of the international program is the homestay experience. It is an integral part of the program because of the sharing of culture, family, and language. English language acquisition is the primary goal of the students who come here. The program has proven to be a highly positive experience for families. International parents are looking for a warm family environment for their children. We need host families in all areas of the city. Hosting a student is an exciting cultural exchange. The student reimburses the family a month $700.00. Most homestay hosts find this a rewarding and enriching experience for their families. If you are interested in experiencing a different culture by hosting a student please call our office at 659-7688. Additional information can be found in our homestay guide which is available at www.gscs.sk.ca/international.

TOP HEALTH
‘Talk Back’ to Worry What is worry? It’s homework you didn’t get around to finishing. It’s suffering in an imaginary life while the real one passes you by. What is worry really worth? Is something weighing heavily on your heart and mind? Ask yourself: Can I control this thing I’m worried about? If the answer is yes, ask yourself, what do I want to happen? What are some of the ways I might make it happen? Decide which of these choices is the best. Then do it. If you can’t control the situation causing your worry, the following techniques may help: Take the ‘Busy Bee’ approach. Get involved in an activity to push your worries aside. Activities in which you are physical and/or mentally active (talking to a friend, playing a sport/game) are usually more distracting than passive activities such as watching TV. Learn to let go of and accept what you can’t change. Devote your energy to the things in life that you can change! Practice relaxation techniques. Try deep breathing. “mini-vacations” muscle tension / relaxation or meditation. Stop the thoughts. Think the work “STOP” and immediately focus on a pleasant thought or activity. Write down your worries in a notebook as they come, but don’t read them until later. Set aside a time to ready them, then tear them up and throw them away. (They’re not worth holding on to, are they? Talk back to worry by asking: • What’s the worst thing that could happen? • Although I don’t want it to happen, could I survive it? How? • How likely is it that my worst fear will happen? • What proof do I have? • What are some of the possible good outcomes? • Of all the times I’ve worried, what percentage of the time have my worries come true.? • When my fears did come true, what did I gain by worrying ahead of time?
