Saskatoon Community Bands
PETER ENGLAND

Peter is the current Program Director, a position
he has held since the inception of the organization. He is also conductor
of the Wind Ensemble and Beginner Band. For 32 years he worked as a band
director for the Saskatoon Catholic School Board, 29 of those as director
of bands at Holy Cross High School. Throughout his career, Peter has maintained
a strong commitment to involvement in the musical life of the community.
He has served as manager and principal bassoonist of the Saskatoon Symphony,
Director of the Saskatoon Lions Band program, and a board member and President
of the Saskatchewan Band Association. He has also served as co-ordinator
of the Saskatchewan Band Association Summer Senior Band Workshop held in
Saskatoon.He is an active adjudicator throughout the province and serves
as a sessional lecturer at the University of Saskatchewan teaching Music
Technology.
DOUG GILMOUR
Doug Gilmour is conductor of the Junior and Concert Bands. Doug has long been a member
of Saskatoon's music community. Active as both a performer and teacher
of music, he is recognized as a strong instrumentalist on saxophone and
other woodwinds in the classical genre and as a bassist in jazz and other
contemporary areas. This has included performances and recordings with
groups as diverse as Solstice, Bridge City Dixieland band, The Saskatoon
Saxophone Quartet, and Ross Ulmer. Doug's teaching and directing contributions
have included work with the Saskatoon Youth Orchestra Double Bass Program,
The Saskatoon Jazz Society Big Band, The Saskatoon Lion's Band, and the
Holy Cross Community Adult Band in addition to coaching many students in
private lessons, band camps and workshops.
