Course Outline
AWARDS
Introduction to computer applications is one of the three components of Grade 9 General Practical Arts. This 20 hour course will introduce you to some of the fundamentals of computers, programming, graphics, and word processing.

The underlying objective of the course is to provide you with an understanding of much of the basic software used in Information Processing 10, 20, 30, and  Computer science applied to and transferred to other subject areas

 

First Three, Then Me 
In keeping with the concept of a learning community, I would ask that if you have a question during an assignment that you first ask three of your peers. If they do not know the answer then ask me.

Keyboarding An introduction to keyboarding using Mavis Beacon. This portion of the course runs daily for 5 min. at the start of each class. you will be marked on speed and technique. 2 5
Internet search Techniques Worksheets which explain how to make effective searches on the internet. An assignment sheet that uses the techniques learned. 1.5 85
The internet Web Quest You will do a group research assignment on the internet and PowerPoint presentation of your research findings. 5
Macromedia Flash You will create a simple flash animation to be used later in your Web Page. 5
Macromedia Fireworks You will use this graphic software to create a button, graphic, animated gif or, icon for your Web Page. 2
Dreamweaver You will create a simple 4 page Web Site using a web page editor called Dreamweaver 4
Visual basic Optional N/A
