ECOJUSTICE
is a course taught out of St. Edward School in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
It emphasizes the importance of the ecosystem in today's ever-changing global society.
Important issues surrounding the environment are discussed. Topics include economic,
cultural and social factors in relation to our surrounding ecosystem.
Students learn through a 'Problem-Based Learning' (PBL) model. Is it a new methodology? PBL is not a new model of
instruction. Plato and Socrates required that their students think, retrieve information
for themselves, search for new ideas and debate them in a scholarly environment. However,
this process differs from the teacher-dominated approach used in most educational settings.
Students are also given the opportunity to discuss course content using a number of technologies
that encourage a paperless work environment. It is just one example of bringing awareness to the impact we
have on our ecosystem and how we can reduce our footprint...thus improving life.
