Learners must have real and meaningful goals. When learners are actively and willfully working toward a goal, they learn more.

Example

Students in a online class will have access to the massive amount of resources that are available on the net. An example of this might be the Astronomy Village, multimedia materials developed by NASA. The materials provide the students with the necessary tools to learn the fundamentals of astronomy, to support scientific inquiries, and analyze data and images. The program provides students with a series of scientific problems which the students must solve. The students must develop a plan based on the posed problems and carry it out. The execution of the plan is an example of intentional learning. All course material developed within SCCS could also be considered an example of this.
