Learners should work on projects that reflect real world problems and tasks. Teaching knowledge and skills in authentic environments and cases will assist learners in transferring what they have learned to new situations.
Example
A teacher assigns authentic roles to students who must create web pages demonstrating their knowledge of the person they are to portray. For example, if a student is interested in art, he may choose to create a web page on Picasso. He would create the web page as if he were Picasso presenting them within the SCCS student webpage area. Then, other students viewing this, could ask him questions such as, "During what years did you create the works which are known as the Blue Period?" or "What technique did you use to create The Bullfighter ?" These questions could be asked in a special chat or message area. This would cause the student role playing to research, think about issues from a different perspective, and effectively respond to questions. The students would literally be in the context of the characters they are playing.
