In collaborative learning environments, learners work together, profiting from each others strengths, to achieve a common goal. Collaboration helps learners gain a certain level of appreciation and respect for their teammates. Also, they learn the importance of working well together for the good of the whole. The internet can be an enormously powerful tool for collaboration. Two classrooms from opposite sides of the world can collaborate and work toward a common goal while capitalizing on the perspectives and talents of each.

Example

SCCS through the Internet could pair with other online schools and develop a partnership. A teacher could developed an awareness project that involved the participation of students of different ages from locations all around the world. Data could be collected from students in all locations. Then the students could compare their interpretations with other locations' interpretations. Finally, a web page could be create to communicate the students' findings to the world. This collaborative effort would help the students develop skills for interpreting data, turning data into useful information, and making the information available to the public.
