  TREATY EDUCATION - KINDERGARTEN

Objectives - to explore the basic concept of a promise made between people
Key Terms - promise, friendship, peace, respect, Elders

Suggested Resources:
• Learning Circle: Ages 4-7
• A Promise is a Promise by Robert Munsch (E MUN)
• Peace Songs by Red Grammer
• Friendship/Round Dance - students hold hands and move in a circle using the peace song tape and/or the round dance tape/CD (See handout for dance instructions)
• Aboriginal Elders and Community Workers in Saskatchewan

Suggested Activities:
• make peace signs using bodily kinesthetics
• Read a Promise is a Promise
• Talk about what a promise means
• Discuss other language/words for a promise
• Talk about friendship/peace
• Make a friendship bracelet using four beads (red, white, yellow, and black which represent the four races of the world) (See samples in kit)
• Red represents First Nations people
• White represents European descendants
• Yellow represents Asian people
• Black represents all dark skinned people
• Read any other stories that highlight "promise"
• Discuss symbols of handshake and peace signs as visual symbols of agreements, relationships and friendships.
• Peace Song(s) e.g. Peace is Flowing Like a River
