  TREATY EDUCATION - GRADE FIVE

Objectives:

- to learn how treaties are perceived by both Aboriginal and non Aboriginal people
- to understand the influence and power of the Indian Agent
Key Terms: point of view, perspective, respect, Elder, Indian Agent, Indian Act

Suggested Resources:
• Prior to the visit to the Diefenbaker Centre or OTC Learning Centre/discuss the role of the Indian Agent. (See handout)
• Discuss/research how and why the Indian Act was introduced. (See handout)
• Information on Treaty Six.

As a Follow-up activity to the Tour of the Diefenbaker Centre read the "Maligned Wolf" and discuss the following questions:
1. What story is the "Maligned Wolf" based on?
2. From who's point of view was the original and both stories written?
