  TREATY EDUCATION - GRADE FOUR

Objectives:
- to know that maps of the province provide a variety of information, including the specific locations of Métis communities (Lebret, Batoche, Ile-a-la Crosse and treaty areas.
- to explore historical and contemporary life on reserves
- to learn about the role of Métis translators in the treaty making process.

Suggested Activities:
• Using maps compare the map area of what Saskatchewan looked like prior to the formation of the province (1905) and Saskatchewan today.
• Compare reserve life to riverlot system that Métis people lived on (see handout on riverlot system)
• Discuss the reasons why reserves were introduced.
