  TREATY EDUCATION - GRADE THREE

Objectives - to become aware that the making of reserves was part of the treaty process
- to learn about life on reserves yesterday and today

Suggested Activities:
• The treaties were a way to settle the land ownership issue.
• Reserves were established as a result of the treaty making process.
• Discuss reserves as communities.
• Identify the urban reserve in Saskatoon (Muskeg Lake First Nations)
• On the Map of Saskatchewan locate reserves near Saskatoon (Whitecap First Nations, Beardy's and Okemasis First Nations, One Arrow First Nations).
• Read books by Darrell Pelletier (as listed above)
• Invite a guest speaker (Elder) to talk about their reserve.
• Pen Pal writing (Students from Saskatoon Catholic Schools write to students in Whitecap First Nations and Beardy's and Okemasis First Nations)
• Write/draw what a reserve would look like to you
• Compare a reserve to your own community
• Colour picture from Office of Treaty Commission (colouring contest)
