Introduction:

In this module you will recognize the diversity of animals by examining characteristics and examples of each of the major animal phyla.

Lesson 1: Poriferan and Cnidarians

The purpose of this lesson is to study characteristics and examples of sponges and cnidarians.

  • Activity: Phylum Porifera and Phylum Cnidaria Review Questions.

Lesson 2: The Three Worm Phyla

The purpose of this lesson is to look at the characteristics of organisms belonging to each of the worm phyla and to examine evolutionary development in the animal kingdom.

Assignment:

Lesson 3: Phylum Mollusca and Phylum Echinodermata

The purpose of this lesson is to complete a clam dissection in order to study the main characteristics of the mollusks. In addition, you will describe the main features and observe examples of the echinoderms.

Lesson 4: The Arthropods

The purpose of this lesson is to explore the main characteristics of Arthropods and to study the reasons for the numerical success of the arthropods.

Lesson 5: The Chordates

The purpose of this lesson is to examine characteristics and examples of the various classes of chordates.
