Ecological Organization
Ecosystems and Ecology
Populations and Communities
Biomes and Succession

UNIT 2

Objectives:

  • To explain how the interactions among the soil, climate, and living organisms produce the ecosystems that can be observed.
  • To analyze a variety of ecosystems.
  • To describe life in past ecosystems.
  • To explain how populations are counted.
  • To analyze population changes.
  • To recognize ecological sequencing.

Description:

This unit will focus on some of the many aspects of ecology. In the first module, you will look closely at some of the abiotic (nonliving) components of the environment, along with the biotic (living) components and the relationships between the two of them. In the second module, you will estimate the size of populations and analyze changes to populations. Int he third module, you will explore the components of a number of different biomes as well as the process of ecological succession.

Evaluation:

This unit is worth 35% of your final mark in this course. The assignments to be submitted for evaluation will be outlined in each of the module overviews.
