Effective use of the Chatroom
This is a brief explanation of how to set up your Chat Room correctly in order to allow students to communicate with you to hopefully save you time in the long run by dealing with small issues quickly and getting it off your plate, and out of your inbox.
Step One
Watch this video called:
SCCS Chat Room Setup
Step two
Set up your course as explained in the video
Step three
Copy the HTML code below and paste it into your upper text block. If you don't know how to do this,
click here.
<html>
<body>
<p align="center"><font face="Calibri" size="5">Please feel free use the
"Teacher's Office" chat room for specific questions and queries concerning this
course. You will know if your teacher is online if their name is
listed in the discussion room. </font></p>
<p align="center"><font face="Calibri" size="5">This is not a room to use for
general discussions. Thanks!</font></p>
</body>
</html>
Step four
If you know you are going to be working in your course for a while, or you have regular Cyber "office hours" this is a great tool. Just open up the "Teacher's Office" chat room window - click the "entry chime" box, minimize the window and you are good to go.
Hope this helps you become a more approachable online teacher

"Done. Took me all but 5 minutes from start to finish – including the video. I will send my students an email explaining this option of communication."
