PRINCIPAL'S PEN

•  Our Advent Liturgy was last night at St. Anne's Church, and our Grade 1-5 classes did an excellent job! The singing and choral reading was top notch and the effort that the students put into the evening was fantastic! Special thanks go out to our teachers and educational assistants, who worked so hard to prepare our students for the evening. It was a great time for us to get together and demonstrate the true meaning of the season.

•  Our Grade 8 students continue to prepare for the Elmwood Lodge Christmas party. They will be hosting the residents of the Elmwood Lodge Care Home this Thursday, for an evening of fun and friendship.

Memory Awakens Hope . . . . . . . . . Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, Seek That Which Is Above, 1986

"Advent is concerned with that very connection between memory and hope which is so necessary to man. Advent's intention is to awaken the most profound and basic emotional memory within us, namely, the memory of the God who became a child. This is a healing memory; it brings hope. The purpose of the Church's year is continually to rehearse her great history of memories, to awaken the heart's memory so that it can discern the star of hope.…

It is the beautiful task of Advent to awaken in all of us memories of goodness and thus to open doors of hope."

BAND NEWS

Our Grade six and seven/eight band performed at Bishop James Mahoney High School last Thursday evening for parents and friends. They did an excellent job and their hard work showed through in their performance. A very special thanks goes out to Mrs. McGonigal, who has put so much effort into preparing her students for the performances.

ADOPT A SIDEWALK

As part of our school's mission to reach out to others, some of our classes will be “adopting” sidewalks in the neighborhood. This means we will be identifying residents who need assistance keeping their sidewalks clear during the winter months and going out to shovel after the snow falls. If you know of anyone who would be in need of such assistance, please call the office with their address.
